Have you ever noticed that when you are on holidays, happy and stress free, you don’t have pain, or your pain is better? There is an undeniable link between our emotions and our physical pain. We see it every day in clinic, some of you have experienced an emotional release during a treatment. That is mainly why there are tissues in the treatment rooms!

The wisdom of our bodies speaks volumes, often revealing profound insights into our emotional landscape. Certain areas of pain can hold different emotions. Drawing inspiration from the profound insights of both Inna Segal's "The Secret Language of Your Body" and Dr. Bessel Van Der Kolk's "The Body Keeps the Score," this weeks Newsletter explores the emotional dimensions of musculoskeletal pain. The intention is to inquire and be curious as to whether there is a layer of emotion contributing to your pain.

Back Pain: often a bearer of burdens and unresolved emotions, serves as a poignant invitation to release the weight we carry. Back pain, for instance, may signify a reluctance to face the challenges of life head-on or carry the burdens of others.

Neck Pain: There is a connection between neck pain and the fear of expressing our authentic selves. Segal's insights remind us that neck pain can signify a stubborn refusal to see different perspectives or a fear of expressing our true selves.

Shoulder Pain: a common companion to emotional baggage and unspoken truths, calls for compassionate exploration and release. Segal's wisdom illuminates the connection between shoulder pain and the weight of unresolved emotional baggage.

Knee Pain: may signal a fear of stepping forward or a need for greater support.

Tight Breathing: Restricted breathing, a silent plea for liberation and expansion, invites us to explore the depths of our emotions. Segal teaches us that restricted breathing can indicate a fear of fully embracing life or stifled emotions longing for expression.

Pelvic Floor Pain: is often rooted in feelings of shame or unworthiness, beckons us to reclaim our feminine power. Pelvic floor pain can be deeply intertwined with emotions surrounding femininity, sexuality, and self-worth. With gentle guidance and holistic care, we support women in restoring balance and vitality to their pelvic region, honouring the sacredness of their bodies and emotions.

Tailbone Pain: Segal's wisdom reminds us that tailbone pain may signify a reluctance to let go of the past or embrace change.

Foot Pain: Foot pain may signify feeling trapped or unable to move forward.

Elbow Pain: Elbow pain may represent resistance to change or a struggle with bending under pressure.

Wrist Pain: Wrist pain may indicate a fear of taking action or a sense of restriction in one's abilities.

Jaw Pain: Jaw pain, a testament to unspoken emotions and stifled truths, calls for gentle exploration and expression. Jaw pain may result from repressed anger, tension, or unresolved conflict. By addressing both physical tension and emotional root causes, we support women in finding their voice, fostering harmony and relaxation in their jaw muscles and lives.

Headaches: Headaches, harbingers of unmet needs and emotional depletion, prompt us to prioritise self-care and nourishment. Segal reminds us that headaches often signal a need for self-care and emotional nourishment. Through osteopathic care, lifestyle adjustments, and nurturing practices, we assist women in reconnecting with their inner wellspring of peace and vitality, honouring the wisdom of their bodies and emotions.
